Welcome on board! A rewarding week full of frisbee, fun, new friendships and work awaits you. To avoid problems throughout the tournament, please follow the basic rules each member of the staff must know and respect.
VOLUNTEERS’ ELIGIBILITY
Only volunteers 18 and older are eligible to participate (underage volunteers 16 and older will be accepted upon agreement if accompanied by a parent or another trusted adult). Volunteers are expected to speak English. Other language skills are most welcome. We expect all volunteers to arrive on Friday, 2 July, to participate in the mandatory training workshop for all participants of the tournament organization.
STAFF OBLIGATIONS
Volunteers are not permitted to participate in the tournament as players and coaches or otherwise. We apologize for that. Volunteers should be committed to their responsibilities for the entire duration of the tournament and work one shift every day at the fields.
It is very important that the volunteers show up for their scheduled game on time. In case you are late or won’t make it at all, immediately tell your closest coordinator or the tournament area coordinator so they can find a replacement.
Each volunteer will receive an ID card and a T-shirt and will have these while in shift. Alcohol and other drug use is forbidden during shift. All volunteers are expected to act in a professional manner, be good representatives of the sport and their nation and adhere to law of the Czech Republic.
BASIC INFORMATION
The tournament locations are Vršovice and Strahov. Strahov has more fields and it will be the place of accommodation for all volunteers. Transportation between the tournament areas will be by direct bus connection and won’t take more than 20 minutes.
Volunteers will be accomodated in the student dorms in the vicinity of the Strahov tournament area in the double rooms with shared bathrooms on each floor. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be preparated for you every day. Breakfast is served in cafeteria style. A choice of four dishes is available for dinner (one vegetarian). You will get a lunch package every morning to take away.
Volunteers should direct any problems and unexpected events to their section coordinator. Each of the tournament areas will have its head coordinator who will interact with the section coordinators and volunteers (if needed) and other members of the organizing team. Volunteers make sure they know the coordinator of their section and the head coordinator.
GENERAL FIRST AID/EMERGENCIES/INCIDENTS
As direct observers of the tournament events, volunteers are expected to inform their superior coordinator of any serious events. Examples of serious events:
If any of these events occur, decide first whether there is a fast, easy and safe solution and if so, do it. Once the problem solved, please, inform your coordinator about the details of the problem and the solution.
If you don’t know how to handle it, your attempt failed or you don’t feel like dealing with it, immediately inform your nearest coordinator.
Medical staff will be present at various locations across the tournament area for the entire period of game play and during events. In case of injury/accident, please, follow the rules below:
COMMON INQUIRIES
As a representative of the WUCC 2010, visitors, media, athletes and others may approach you for information. Be aware of your role and provide courteous and helpful service every time. We want you to become aware of your surroundings at the venue and know the answers to the following six common inquiries:
GAME TIME INFORMATION
Two scorekeepers will be at each field. In case of a dispute, scorekeepers will provide the tournament rules. No other interaction is allowed.
Usually, there will be 4 games played at each field daily. One team of volunteers will be in charge of two consecutive games. After the first two games another two volunteers will take their place. Volunteers scheduled for the morning games must show up one hour before the first match, inspect the field and prepare it for the game (line the field, clean, set up cones, etc.). When done, they prepare their spot (chairs, table, scoreboard, score and spirit sheets, a pen, a whistle, stopwatch…) and wait for the team captains. After the second match, they hand everything over to the other team of volunteers.
Volunteers scheduled for the afternoon games must show up at least half an hour before the start of the match. They take over the equipment and wait for the team captains. After the last game, they clean up the field and bring the equipment to a designated place (yet to be specified).
BENEFITS
All volunteers will receive a player’s package, free accommodation, food and free access to all tournament events (off shift). We are preparing other staff only activities as well. More information to come.
